It’s Hurricane Season | Andie Dixon

Today’s sermon by Andie Dixon focused on the power and importance of prayer. Andie began by addressing a common issue: many people struggle with prayer simply because they don’t practice it. Drawing on Jewish beliefs, Andie highlighted how thoughts are considered sacred and known only to God. Prayer, therefore, is an act of seeking help or expressing gratitude to God.
One key question Andie tackled was how to distinguish between one’s own thoughts and God’s voice. Through regular prayer, discernment becomes clearer. Andie mentioned that the audible voice of God is rarely heard, with Moses being one of the few exceptions. The Bible describes God’s voice in powerful, awe-inspiring terms: like thunder, lightning illuminating the world, or the rushing of an upside-down ocean. When combined, these descriptions suggest that God’s voice resembles a hurricane.
Andie emphasized that some people feel their prayers are insignificant. However, when we pray using God’s Word, even the smallest faith, like that of a mustard seed, holds tremendous power. Our prayers can thwart the devil and create a significant impact. Andie encouraged everyone to be like a hurricane in their prayer life, making their voices heard and creating spiritual thunder by connecting with God.
